Custer’s Last Stand – Day 10 RV trip

Today’s schedule is a big one.  Drive from Rapid City SD to Big Horn Wyoming to see the spot of Custer’s last stand and then cross Wyoming to Yellowstone park.  On the way Bunny learns that the road to Yellowstone across Wyoming is very curvy and has a lot of elevation gain.  So she determines that the best route is actually to drop in from the north out of Montana.  The roads are much less curvy and less elevation gain.  So we set our sights for Livingstone mt.  Then she realized that I had actually got the wrong location for Custer’s last stand.  I was going to Big Horn Wyoming, but actually the spot of Custer’s last stand is at Little Big Horn in Montana which just happens to be on the way to Livingston Mt.  Funny how things work out sometimes.  Well it was over 4 hours drive to little big horn and around 8 hours to Livingston mt.
We got to Custer Last stand and it was very good.  Bunny and I enjoyed it much more than we thought we would.  There was a lot of history leading up to the event and much more to the story than just where Custer was finally killed.  The whole thing stretched over 3 to 4 miles.  Really interesting.  But once again an exhibit is closing and we still have to find a place to stay in Livingston mt.  After a lot of reaseach we found an RV park for a reasonable price and a short drive to Yellowstone.  Its not HoJos but it will do … Tomorrow Yellowstone … Maybe we’ll find a picnic basket … Hey Bobo….

Custard, didn’t have a chance, of course he didn’t have a brain either. The Oliver North of the 19th Century!

Hope you guys are having fun, sounds like you are, we did a lot of that same trip in 1985 and again a couple of times in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Lots of American old West history out there. Did you go to Deadwood? I haven’t read everything yet, so if you mentioned it, sorry!

Happy that Ben is OK, what a tragedy…

The only way the NRA will consider any kind of ban on any weapon would be if their National Convention had a mass murder perpetrated on them. Of course that will never happen because all of the Wing Nuts are members!!!

Welcome to our blog, Pat! This is buns.

We didn’t make it to deadwood. Our bad.

Not sure what we can do about the gun problem. Even some of the dems are in the pocket of the NRA. And others get targeted (excuse the pun) if they vote for any reforms. It sucks!!!

Only if your smarter than the average Bear!

Custer’s las stand sounds interesting, that Sioux chief sure had some Gall attacking the army like that, but then again they were Lame White Man!

    Sounds like a great trip.

Marty spelled Boo Boo BoBo. Sheesh.

So, Rich, you are a Custer aficionado? Love the Lame White Man reference! While I can’t recall (you know how OLD I am), I’m pretty sure we weren’t told the whole truth (or any of it) when we were taught about Little Bighorn growing up. Now you see the occasional “Custer got what he deserved” bumper sticker…
