Clearly the Balloon head Italians are searching for their leader who they only have a rumpled picture of? They are seeking Benjamin!
I’ve showed that picture to several people and there are two main theories that have surfaced. I think you witnessed the meeting of the greatest chefs in the universe who have gathered in Italy! They like to play Sci Fi music; it makes them feel more at home. Their chef hats didn’t handle the pressure change real well which explains the inflation of their bonnets. They are seeking that whom the gentleman holds in his hands – Benjamin – he is known throughout the galaxy as the most picky / finicky eater in this universe – they have come to Earth to see which Chef can prepare food that Ben will eat and adore. It is a universal competition, unfortunately, they thought Ben was with you and now they are wallowing aimlessly.
The other theory is that they are dressed as giant used condoms (which explains the bulbous heads / hats). They are of course seeking Benjamin for a galactic romp – Ben should be very afraid if he hears Star Wars or any Richard Strauss music – run for it!

Rich, we do sooooo appreciate your vigorous analysis of this puzzling phenomenon. I (Bunny) believe the most plausible theory is number one. I had never considered the chef possibility, but it makes sense! Those white balloons do resemble chef hats! We actually also thought that these guys might be Woody Allen fans and may have been reenacting the sperm scene from sleepers (was that the film?). Your explanation is better because it takes into account the sci fi music. 🙂 grazie mille!! (but Ben should be on guard just in case…)
