We have arrived in Montipulciano

Saturday … Day 7
We have left France and have arrived in Montipulciano, Italy.  We left Villefranche at 10:30 this morning and stopped in Pisa at 4:30.  Then we arrived in Montipulciano at 7:30.  Lucca met us and lead us to the apartment where we will be hanging out of for the next week.  Lucca is a very colorful character who speaks broken English and very passionate about this part of Italy.  We spent an hour going over places to see and where to eat and drink in the area.  It was dark when we arrived so I am looking forward to seeing the city in the day light.
Our last day in France was spent going to two cities.  Saint-Tropez and Cap Ferrat. Both are on the coast and both are beautiful … But neither really had a lot of history to them.  While they were old towns, I like the old castles and ancient ruins.  Those two cities just didn’t have that kind of history.  Our original destination was Aryie, they have an old colusem,  but it was to far and it was getting late.

Our big event today was running across Griffy’s Bar Pizza and Beer joint in Pisa.  We couldn’t believe it.  Because of the language barrier we couldn’t figure out who it was named after.  We had coffee and sandwiches before leaving.

Ben had a chance to stop and look out over Villefranche on our way out of town. Unfortunately Ben was not able to make the trip to see the leaning tower of pizza.

Looks like a great trip so far. Can’t wait to see Montepulciano pics!

I don’t remember seeing any comments about “L’Ecole Pour les Americains qui Parlent Francais Moche.” Did you check that out?

Hi Dave! Thanks for commenting:). Honestly, I did not even check out the french school. After a few days of abusing my knees walking up and down the hills of villefranche, I realized that I would be an invalid if I spent 4 full weeks there. I may try to find a school in Normandy – or just wait til I have knee surgery 🙂 🙁

Flat Ben seems to be having a wonderful time. His expression must appear similar wherever you go, never upset or disappointed. I wish I would have sent a small pocket photo of me, so I could enjoy your trip as much as Ben is.

Montepulciano seems almost magical. I checked it out online, and it seems to have everything. Almost 2000 ft high overlooking the Val di Chiani, full of medieval and Renaissance buildings and plazas with spectacular views of southern Tuscany. There must be almost too much to do and see. If I were Scott I’d think about staying there. Maybe he could get a job at Griffy’s Birra and Pizza in Pisa. I saw Montepulciano even has a fairly large International University. It will probably be hard to come back to Oregon when the time comes.

I’m pretty sure Pasha’s girlfriend, Carrie, is in Europe right now attending an international midwife’s convention. I’m not sure where exactly she is.

Your pictures and tales of France and Italy are getting really interesting. Sure you’ll be coming back?

Really, I just want to get my picture taken with my arms folded out in front of me, my head tilted back and a enormously jutting chin sticking out from my super superior Mussolini smug mug. I think I’d make a terrific comic monster. No Photoshop needed.

:):) you would love the italian people. Very friendly! Not many Mussolini types left 🙂

Mea culpa, Flat Ben! We had totally planned to do that but we had to take a shuttle over to where the tower is and we forgot Flat Benjamin in the car. We remembered when we started taking pictures. So sorry! It won’t happen again!
