We started the tour at the Vatican museum.\u00a0 It was full of sculptures, paintings and tapestries.\u00a0 Then we were lead into the Sistine chapel where Michelangelo painted the ceiling.\u00a0 We used a Rick Steve&#8217;s app on our phones to have Rick lead us thru the different parts of the paintings on the ceiling.\u00a0 It was mesmerizing. The fascinating thing for me was how small the actual chapel was (or seemed).\u00a0 The whole chapel was134 ft long by 44 ft wide and 68 ft high.\u00a0 Then the people inside were elbow to elbow which made it seem smaller yet.\u00a0 I guess I had always imagined it would be a much bigger place.\u00a0 No pictures were allowed in this chapel.<\/p>\n<p>We then found the &#8220;secret doorway&#8221; to St Peter&#8217;s basilica (thanks, Dave! \ud83d\ude42 ).\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.griffy-sherlock.com\/homepage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/wpid-img_20140318_0702225.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_20140318_070222.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.griffy-sherlock.com\/homepage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/wpid-img_20140318_0702225.jpg\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>This is the biggest church in the world.\u00a0 It measures at 730 ft long 500 ft wide and 452 ft high at its tallest place.\u00a0 We used the Rick Steve&#8217;s app once again to lead us thru St Peter&#8217;s Basilica.\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.griffy-sherlock.com\/homepage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/wpid-img_20140318_0732433.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_20140318_073243.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.griffy-sherlock.com\/homepage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/wpid-img_20140318_0732433.jpg\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>We got out of that at 4 pm and our feet were tired.\u00a0 We found a nice place for drinks, bruchetta and pizza then we had to hussle off to pick up tickets for the papal audience tomorrow.\u00a0 The nun who gave us the tickets said we should be there by 7 am to get a good seat and that it would last until after noon. Not sure if that&#8217;s gonna happen or not.\u00a0 Besides, we&#8217;ve already seen &#8220;Papa Francesca&#8221;.
