Catching up

We had no wi-fi for a couple of days (either due to false advertising or a breakdown in communication ;)).

So here’s what we did the first two days, despite our jet lag. We drove from Frankfurt to Oberammergau, a trip that our Garmin said would take fours but which stretched into six plus. The next morning we were off to Dachau. Dachau has the dubious distinction of being the first of hundreds of Nazi concentration camps. It’s hard to take it all in – but probably should be required for any person in a position of power (all German school children must visit one of these prisons; why not all elected officials??). The goal of visiting, along with learning a lot of history, is to promote harmony and peace, to ensure that we have learned from the past. Ne plus jamais – never again.

The next day we went to a very different tourist spot – Mad King Ludwig’s castle. It is probably the most visited castle in Germany. It was interesting and beautiful; HOWEVER if we were to do it over again, we’d probably save the 27 euros and skip the (short and drab) guided tour and just enjoy the views and the outside. (Note: Bunny had already been to Dachau and Mad King Ludwig’s in 1982). Here’s a photo:

After the castle, we hit the autobahn for another marathon drive, this time to Colmar, France. More about Colmar in our next post…

Bonne chance mon amie! Although I don’t think you’ll need it! I’m excited to hear about the experience! Tu es une femme amusante, et je crois qu’elle t’aimerais beaucoup. I plan to live vicariously through you so enjoy it for both of us!

All is good here in Portlandia. Tony the cat was visiting your back deck when Dennis and I stopped by to check on things. Tony says Hi! Meow! Also returned the table and chairs Charlotte borrowed and got into the liquor cabinet. JK… 🙂
Wish I could be hanging out in Montbard, but I’d be down at the gluten free boulangerie with my morning coffee, skipped out on lessons. Looking forward to hearing all about it! Hope you are settling in and enjoying!

Thanks for taking care of the homestead! It would be a blast to have all of you here in these cool, OLD villages, hanging out at cafés and boulangeries. Maybe next time?

You guys should take more pictures with both of you in it. You took that selfie stick right? (just kidding don’t use those). Mad Ludwig’s castle looks like it’s tilted, is that why he’s mad?

Hello dear Greta! We are switching back and forth writing these things but mostly it is me. I think we’re going to take a different approach to these posts, I.e. what we’re writing about. You’ll see – let me know what you think. I start my “immersion” program tomorrow. Wish me luck ☺☺

I hope you’re both feeling better now, although a 6 hour drive probably didn’t help. It’ll feel good to stay in one place for a few days, especially in a place where one of you speaks the language! Question– I’m just wondering who is writing the blog. I thought it was Bunny but there’s a reference to Bunny in it. Both of you? I like to know who is making me laugh:-). I miss you guys already!!!!!
